The Story

Founded in 1989, Pori Dance Company is a dance group whose core mission is to promote tolerance and humane values through dance – drawing on its diversity, adaptability, and deep-rooted origins. We strive to advocate bodily awareness, offering a way to explore and sense the boundaries between physicality and imagination. In creating multi-layered experiences, we aim toward uncompromising artistic outcomes and seek to offer our audiences vibrant and timely art that resonates with the present moment.

We also value making dance more widely known, enhancing its accessibility, and highlighting the sense of community it fosters. Established in its hometown Pori by dance artist Liisa Nojonen in 1989 and led by her until 2014, the group produces 3–4 premieres annually and performs both in Finland and internationally. Over the years, the group’s repertoire has included works by renowned Finnish artists such as Tero Saarinen, Jorma Uotinen, Marjo Kuusela, and Alpo Aaltokoski, as well as emerging young talents. The company collaborates with educational institutions in the field and with representatives of various other art forms. In addition to Pori, the group regularly performs elsewhere in Finland and abroad.

Our background organization is Keho Liikkeessä ry. You can support our work and receive regular updates by becoming a member of the association.
